We start with a gentle yet thorough examination of your child’s teeth, mouth, and gums. This includes taking x-rays as needed and completing a head and neck exam. Once a treatment plan is made to correct any problems, your child will have a prophylactic cleaning to remove any plaque and tarter.
Sealants
Sealants, just like fluoride, help protect your child’s teeth and prevent cavities. A thin resin covers the grooves of the teeth to prevent decay.
Fluoride
Fluoride is especially important in children, but it is recommended for people of all ages. The key component of fluoride is to help strengthen and protect your teeth from decay.
Fillings
Children need fillings just like adults when a tooth gets a cavity and the decay is removed.
Pulpotomies/Pulpectomies
(Aka child root canal therapy) When your child’s tooth is decayed or broken into the pulp, a pulpotomy or pulpectomy is done to remove infected tissue. This procedure allows the primary tooth to be maintained before the adult teeth erupt, and your child will be able to chew more comfortably.
Extractions
If your child’s tooth is decayed or infected it may be recommended that the tooth be removed. Once removed, a space maintainer could be recommended to provide room for the adult tooth.
